WNC Nature Center Saddened to Announce Death of White-tailed Deer

With significant hearts, the WNC Nature Heart is sad to report the loss of Becca and Curly, our two white-tailed deer, past week. They were being found in the early morning, and even though there are still some unanswered queries, it would seem that a wild black bear entered their show, and both right or indirectly caused their passing.

The safety of guests, volunteers, staff members, and animals is of utmost value, and the WNC Character Center has strict protection measures and protocols in location each time wild animals are seen in or around the park. Considering that the Character Center’s opening, we have shared the park with wild black bears with out incident.

“This was an regrettable accident that has never ever just before happened in our animal selection,” shared Mother nature Middle Director Chris Gentile. “While it’s a exceptional incidence for a thing like this to materialize, our Animal Care and Upkeep Teams have taken additional measures to dissuade and discourage wild animals from getting into our animal reveals.”

Becca was born in the summer time of 2013 and was introduced to the Mother nature Center as a fawn because she was too younger to survive on her have. In 2017, she attained superstar right after starring in the Oscar-winning motion picture A few Billboards Exterior Ebbing, Missouri (Fox Searchlight), where by she was skilled by Character Center staff members to stand in front of a bluescreen. That footage was edited into the final production with her co-star, Frances McDormand. 

In the summer months of 2020, Curly joined Becca at the WNC Mother nature Centre. He was born in 2012 and was stored illegally as a pet when he was a youthful fawn, so he was imprinted on individuals. Each of the white-tailed deer at the Mother nature Center ended up gentle, curious, and beloved by visitors and workers. 

Wild Black Bear Protection
Western North Carolina is property to an abundance of wild black bears, with reps from the NC Wildlife Means Fee estimating about 8,000 bears in the area. “Wild bears are opportunistic creatures.
